MCA documentation for covert medications

The fields Carerealm captures for each covert medication — MCA reference, best-interest date, review date and notes.

Fields captured per covert medication

  • MCA reference — a reference / link to the formal MCA best-interest decision document (stored as a string).

  • Best-interest date — the date the decision was made.

  • Review date — when the decision is due to be reviewed next.

  • Review notes — free text on the most recent review.

Heads up — The covert record carries only these four structured fields. There is no separate "method" field (e.g. "crushed in yoghurt"), no "best-interest details" body field, and no historical review log — the review fields are overwritten with each review. Capture the method, the full best-interest reasoning, and the full review history in the linked MCA document (and in the supported person's About sections where appropriate).

Setting up a covert medication

  1. Open the medication in Medications.

  2. Tick Covert administration (is_covert).

  3. Fill in the MCA reference, best-interest date and review date.

  4. Save.

Recording an administration

Recordings against covert medications happen via the standard timeline / round flow — there's no separate "covert recorder". The MCA documentation context is shown when you open the medication record.
