Archiving medications

Retire a medication when the prescription stops, with a mandatory reason for the audit trail.

When a prescription ends — supported person no longer needs it, GP discontinued, course completed — archive the medication. Archiving stops it appearing on the timeline and in Round Mode, but preserves every administration record for compliance.

How to archive

  1. Open eMAR → Medications.

  2. Open the medication.

  3. Click Archive.

  4. Enter a reason for the archive — minimum 10 characters. Be specific: "Prescription ended 2026-05-20 per GP review" is better than "Done".

  5. Confirm. The medication disappears from active lists immediately.

Heads up — The reason is mandatory (≥10 characters). The system rejects archives without one — this is deliberate so the audit trail explains every retirement.

Unarchiving

If a medication is restarted, open the archived list (filter "Archived" in Medications) and use Unarchive. The medication returns to the active list with its schedule intact.

Audit trail

Archive and unarchive events are recorded in mars_medication_history with your name, the reason, and the timestamp. Visible from the medication's history view and in the area's Activity Logs.
