PRN effectiveness tracking

Record whether a PRN dose actually worked.

PRN medications are given for symptoms — pain, agitation, breathlessness. Carerealm lets you record the supported person's response after the dose so the team can decide whether the PRN is helping.

Effectiveness ratings

  • Effective — symptom resolved or significantly improved.

  • Partially effective — some improvement, not full resolution.

  • Not effective — no change.

  • Too early to tell — placeholder until you can re-assess.

Recording effectiveness

  1. Open eMAR → PRN (in the main nav).

  2. Find the recent PRN administration.

  3. Click Record effectiveness.

  4. Pick a rating, optionally add notes (pain score, observed behaviour, etc.).

  5. Save.

Reviewing effectiveness

Use effectiveness data at medication reviews. A PRN that's consistently "Not effective" is a candidate for review with the prescriber. A PRN that's consistently "Effective" might warrant a scheduled prescription instead.
