A realm with two areas doesn't need much structure. A realm with eighty does. Parent groups split a service into branches, regions, locations or care types — and let managers be given access to whole swathes of areas in one click instead of one at a time.
How groups work
One group per logical bucket — e.g. "South London branch", "Day services", "Respite stays".
An (or to "No parent area").
Access can cascade — anyone with access to the group sees every area under it (optional per-area).
Dashboard grouping — your dashboard groups areas under their parent name with a heading + description.
Managing groups
Realm admins open Admin → {{Areas}} management and use the New {{Area}} Group button (top-right). The slide-over lets you set name, description, colour, and access. Existing groups are shown as collapsible section headers; click a group header to edit.
Assigning an {{area}} to a group
On the area's Settings page → Permissions section → Parent {{area}} dropdown. Pick a group or leave as "No parent".
Tip — Don't over-group. Two or three top-level groups is plenty for most services. If you find yourself building a deep hierarchy, consider whether tags or naming conventions would suit you better.
