Creating a calendar event

Add a one-off or recurring custom event to an area's calendar.

Custom events are the calendar's native event type — staff meetings, outings, GP appointments, family visits, planned tasks. Other event types (reminders, diary, forms, eMAR) flow in automatically and aren't edited from here.

Adding an event

  1. Open the area's Calendar and pick a view that suits (Week or Day are usually easiest for creation).

  2. Click an empty slot, or press N. The new-event slideover opens.

  3. Title — short label that shows on the calendar tile. Required.

  4. Date and time — start and end. The default duration matches the area's default_duration_minutes setting.

  5. Description — optional. Free text for the detail.

  6. Category — optional. Categories are realm-defined; if your realm restricts categories, only the allowed list appears.

  7. Colour — optional. Override the default colour for visual emphasis.

  8. Recurrence — none / daily / weekly / monthly. See Recurring events.

  9. Save.

Who can create events

By default any member of the area can create events. Realm admins can restrict creation to moderators only via the Members can add toggle in Calendar settings.

Editing and deleting

Click any custom event to open it. The slideover has edit and delete buttons. Deleting a recurring event prompts whether to remove this occurrence only, this and future occurrences, or the whole series.

Heads up — You can only edit custom events here. Reminders, diary entries, queued forms and eMAR doses are read-only on the calendar — open them in their own app to edit.
