Recording a single medication

How to record one dose against the timeline using the outcome picker.

Steps

  1. Open the area's eMAR app. Find the dose to record on the timeline.

  2. Click the cell. The recorder slideover opens.

  3. Pick an outcome:

  4. Given (outcome 1) — successfully administered.

  5. Refused (outcome 3) — supported person refused.

  6. Missed (outcome 5) — the person fell asleep, forgot, etc.

  7. • Click More options for outcomes 2, 4, 6, 7, 8.

  8. Add a note where required — refusals and "Other" prompt for one automatically.

  9. Confirm. The dose is timestamped with your name. The cell flips colour immediately.

When the recorder requires more

  • Witness — controlled drugs and some safety-critical medications require a second staff member to confirm. Their PIN or sign-in is captured.

  • Reason text — refusals, omissions and "Other" need a short reason.

  • Safety override — if a drug interaction or allergy alert fires, you'll be asked to confirm and document why you're proceeding.

Note — See Understanding outcome codes for the full meaning of each code, and Recording PRN for as-needed medications.
