Managing medication rounds

Setting up named rounds (Morning, Lunch, Tea, Bed) so Round Mode picks up only the right doses.

When Round Mode is enabled, you can also define named rounds — Morning, Lunch, Tea, Bed — so each round only queues the doses scheduled in that window.

Defining a round

  1. Open eMAR → Rounds tab.

  2. Click Create round.

  3. Name — e.g. "Morning round", "Bed time".

  4. Scheduled time — when the round normally takes place.

  5. Active — switch the round on or off without deleting it.

  6. Save.

Heads up — The round definition only carries a name, a time and an active flag. There is no description field today. Use a clear, descriptive name (e.g. "Morning round — 8am medications") since that's all staff will see.

Round sessions

Each time a carer starts a round, a round session is created. Sessions carry: who started, started_at, completed_at, medications_due count, medications_administered count, notes. Past sessions are visible from the Rounds tab.

Disabling a round temporarily

Switch Active off rather than deleting. Past session history is preserved either way, but a disabled round won't appear in Round Mode for new sessions.

Tip — Most services define four rounds (Morning, Lunch, Tea, Bed) plus an ad-hoc "PRN as needed" path. If your service runs split shifts, consider a separate round per shift handover so the queue isn't shared.
