Why we say "area"

Carerealm calls each supported person an "area" by default — realm admins can swap that for any vocabulary you prefer.

Throughout these articles you'll see the word area a lot. "Area" is Carerealm's neutral term for one supported person's private space — the digital folder gathering their diary, eMAR, forms and everything else.

Pick the word your team actually uses

Different services prefer different language. Realm admins choose from a fixed list:

  • Client — domiciliary or community-based services.

  • Supported person — learning-disability and supported-living services.

  • Resident — residential care homes.

  • Customer — private-pay or hospitality-style services.

  • Service user — adult social-care services.

  • Tenant — supported tenancies.

  • Area — the platform default (the most generic option).

Where to change it

Realm admins set this at Admin → Settings → General under "Choose the term you use for your client group". Once saved, every part of the app — menus, page titles, even this help centre when you're signed in — uses your chosen word in place of "area".

Heads up — The change is immediate but only takes effect on your next page load. Refresh once after saving so the side menu and area lists pick up the new wording.

On the public help centre

If you're reading these articles signed out, you'll see the canonical "area". As soon as you sign in, your realm's wording slots in automatically.
