Archiving and muting threads

Leave a channel, mute notifications, or archive a channel entirely (for owners + admins).

Muting a channel

Click the bell icon in the channel header to mute (no notifications) or unmute (full notifications). Three levels via the channel settings:

  • Every message (default for active channels).

  • Only @-mentions and DMs.

  • Nothing (full mute).

Leaving a channel

From the channel settings dialog → Leave this channel. The channel disappears from your sidebar. You can rejoin from the directory.

Note — Area channels and DMs can't be left — area-channel membership is derived from area access, and you can't leave a 1:1 or group DM you're part of.

Archiving a channel

Channel owners, channel admins and realm admins can archive a channel. Archiving:

  • Removes the channel from sidebars.

  • Preserves the message history so admins can still browse + unarchive.

  • Stops any further messages from being sent.

Sole-owner handoff

If you're the sole owner of a channel and try to leave, Carerealm asks you to promote someone else first. You can't leave a channel with no owner.
