Claiming an open shift

Open shifts have no carer assigned. If you're eligible, claim one from the area's rota with the amber Claim button.

An open shift is one that's been published but doesn't have a carer assigned yet. If you're eligible to support that area, you can claim it for yourself.

Open shifts appear on the area's Rota — they're shown in amber, gathered in the Open shifts lane (labelled Unassigned / claimable). You may also be notified when a shift opens up or a colleague needs cover.

How claiming works

When you claim a shift it becomes yours straight away and moves onto your My shifts page. The system checks a couple of things first, so a claim can be declined if:

  • You already have another shift that overlaps that time

  • You don't hold the competencies required to support that area

  • Someone else claimed it first

If any of these apply you'll see a short message explaining why, and the shift stays open for someone else.

Step-by-step
  1. 1Open the area's **Rota** tab (or follow the link in your notification).
  2. 2Find the amber shift you want in the **Open shifts** lane.
  3. 3Tap **Claim** on the shift.
  4. 4Look for the confirmation — the shift is now yours and appears on **My shifts**.
Tips
  • Claiming is first-come, first-served — if two people try at once, only the first succeeds.
  • After claiming, you can tap **Acknowledge** to confirm you've got it.
